This Date In Royals Transaction History
Two big earth shattering moves in club history took place on February 15th…
Now that I have your attention those moves were the 1990 signing of Pat Sheridan and 1995 signing of of Jeff Grotewold.
Sheridan had acutally been an eight year major league vet, having picked up a 1985 World Series ring with the Royals, before signing with the Royals in 1990 as a free agent from the Giants. This time however, Sheridan wouldn’t even make it out of spring training with the Royals as he was released on April 3rd. Sheridan would go on to play one more year with the Yankees before retiring.
Sheridan will most commonly be remembered in Royals lore for hitting two home runs in the 1985 American League Championship Series.
Grotewold meanwhile had major league experience, having played 72 games with the Phillies in 1992 before coming to the Royals in 95. In 15 games, mostly at DH, Grotewold batted .278/.422/.389 with a home run and six RBI before being released at the end of the season.
