Another tough day for Wilmington hitters and Omaha pitchers lead to a 1-2 day for Royals affiliates.  Kane County continues to bash Midwest league pitching, leading the league in OPS after 10 games.  HR Roll Call Murray Watts (2), Jorge Bonifacio (1), Orlando Calixte (1), Anthony Seratelli (2) Grand Slam, Clint Robinson (2), Max Ramirez (3)

The Chasers offense continues to enjoy playing in Albuquerque but as one would imagine the pitching doesn’t seem to be having as much fun.  Will Smith was the latest Omaha starter to encounter problems in Isotope stadium after the lefty struggled to navigate some poor Chasers defense and the opponent offense forcing him out after 5.1 innings.  Omaha’s defense let Smith down in the fifth when a Jamie Romak error and a Johnny Giavotella windblown pop up (scored a hit) that got away turned a couple singles into an eight hitter four run inning.  The Chasers would the very next inning with a grand slam by Anthony Seratelli and then punch back to back home runs in the 7th to take a 7-4 lead.  That 7-4 lead wouldn’t be enough when Ethan Hollingsworth would run into problems in the bottom of the 7th and with a depleted bullpen from previous games there was no one to bring in to prevent the five run inning to give Albuquerque the lead and eventually the win.

NW Arkansas postponed due to rain doubleheader on Monday

Frederick Keys 6 Wilmington Blue Rocks 4

Rocks starter Greg Billo looked solid the first time through the lineup Sunday but ran into problems during the second look allowing three singles, hitting a batter, giving up a walk and a steal of home during a 4 run Frederick third inning. The Keys would tack on a couple more runs on relievers Sam Runion and Thomas Melgarejo to put up 6 on the day which is just a bit too much for a Rocks offense that continues to struggle.  On this day Wilmington had more than enough runners on base thanks to seven walks but a 2 for 14 performance with runners in scoring position did them in.

Kane County Cougars 10 Burlington Bees 7

Orlando Calixte

If this offense continues to hit like this it will be a fun season in Geneva for fans after another explosive day with the bats in the finale of their four game set in Burlington.  The Cougars scored 3 runs in two different innings which was the fourth and fifth time the they performed that feat in the series.  Back to back home runs by Jorge Bonifacio and Orlando Calixte got the offense started in the 2nd inning but the Cougars weren’t done using pair of singles, a couple of Bees errors and a walk to take an early 5-0 lead.  The Cougars wouldn’t stop there scoring a pair in the fifth and three more in the sixth churning out a 10-3 lead through 6 innings.  Starter Aaron Brooks would be the beneficiary of the Kane run support working 5 innings while allowing just 2 earned runs on 5 hits and a pair of walks while striking out 7 to earn his 2nd win of the year.  Brooks likely would’ve worked more innings but a rain delay prior to the sixth earned him a quick hook after giving up a home run and a single to start the inning.  Four errors by the Cougars middle infielders Daniel Mateo and Orlando Calixte would make the final score a tad closer than the game really was.

About The Author

I grew up on the mean gravel roads of Iowa where I started my love for baseball from the age of 2. George Brett and the voice of Denny Matthews deepened my love even more for the Royals as my father and I spent summers listening to the team on our deck or in the car on our way to or from my little league and high school games. Sports was always the common bond that my father and I enjoyed and the Royals were in the center of that.I currently live in La Vista with my wife, two sons, two dogs and a pair of gross cats where we are grinding through until we can move somewhere warm when we retire. I own Casino Cab Company and Bluffs Affordable Auto Repair in Council Bluffs trying to build my 1% empire. If you are in the area you can find me at Omaha Storm Chasers games on most nights or just follow me on twitter @ClintScoles.
