Omaha Storm Chasers 7 Iowa Cubs 1

Jake Odorizzi was forced to battle through 6 innings giving up 7 hits and 4 walks but he navigated around plenty of threats giving up just a run and earning a win thanks to a big 2nd inning by the offense.  That 2nd inning got started with a one out David Lough hit by pitch to start a run of eight consecutive Chasers reaching base including Wil Myers 15th AAA home run, a two run shot that ended the scoring at 7 runs in the inning.  Those runs would be plenty for the Chasers to defeat the Cubs for the second consecutive day.

Springfield Cardinals 5 NW Arkansas Naturals 1

Mike Montgomery’s first AA start was similar to most of his AAA starts earning the Naturals another loss.  The struggling pitcher gave up 6 hits, 4 of which from lefties including a 2 run home run by Chris Swauger in the 4th inning.  The Cardinals tacked on 3 more in the 6th versus Montgomery earning him a loss with 5 runs allowing in just 6 innings of pitching.  While Montgomery was his usual self Carlos Martinez, the Cardinals stud pitching prospect, was maneuvering through 6 innings with just a pair of walks and hits allowed to earn the win.  Brian Fletcher had his 10 game hitting streak snapped in the loss going 0 for 4.

Wilmington Blue Rocks 6 Potomac Nationals 3

The Rocks continued their winning ways Saturday finishing off a four game sweep of the Nationals while extending their winning streak to five games.  First baseman Matt Fields continued his power surge since joining the team connecting on his 9th home run in just his 21st game with the club.  Utility man Whit Merrifield also had a solid day at the plate connecting on a pair of doubles while scoring a run and driving in one to pace the Rocks to six runs.  Those runs were enough for starter Elisaul Pimentel who allowed just 4 hits and just one run in his 7 innings, earning his first win with Wilmington.

Kane County Cougars 6 West Michigan Whitecaps 4

Bryan Brickhouse dominated early and hung on late to get through 6 and earn his 2nd win with Kane County.  The Royals 2011 3rd round pick flew through the Whitecaps lineup the first trip putting 5 away via strikeout not allowing a hit or walk over 3 innings.  From their West Michigan got comfortable with the right-hander getting 8 singles and 4 runs off Brickhouse in the next 3 innings.  Those runs weren’t enough for the opponent though as the Cougars offense put up 6 runs in the first 6 innings including home runs from Jorge Bonifacio and Justin Trapp that accounted for 3 of the 6 runs.

About The Author

I grew up on the mean gravel roads of Iowa where I started my love for baseball from the age of 2. George Brett and the voice of Denny Matthews deepened my love even more for the Royals as my father and I spent summers listening to the team on our deck or in the car on our way to or from my little league and high school games. Sports was always the common bond that my father and I enjoyed and the Royals were in the center of that.I currently live in La Vista with my wife, two sons, two dogs and a pair of gross cats where we are grinding through until we can move somewhere warm when we retire. I own Casino Cab Company and Bluffs Affordable Auto Repair in Council Bluffs trying to build my 1% empire. If you are in the area you can find me at Omaha Storm Chasers games on most nights or just follow me on twitter @ClintScoles.
