The Chasers Anthony Seratelli broke a 3-3 tie in the 6th with a solo home run giving Nate Adcock a lead which the bullpen would eventually turn into a win.  Adcock left after the fifth turning these over the pen which was up to the four inning challenge as Brandon Sisk, Tommy Hottovy, Juan Gutierrez and Donnie Joseph finished off the final four scoreless.  The foursome didn’t allow a hit after Adcock gave up 11 while allowing just one base runner to get to second when Joseph walk two in the 9th.  That threat was extinguish when Joseph got Matt Clark to hit one back to him and he spun and executed the 1-6-3 DP to end the game.

J.C. Sulbaran’s second start was much like the first as the player acquired in the Broxton trade struggled with the zone, taking a quick hook and missing out on a chance at a win for the Naturals.  The former Red farmhand was the victim of a Whit Merrifield error in the first which lead to the RockHounds getting a pair in scoring position and eventually scoring on a two out single in the 1st.  Outfielder Brian Fletcher got those runs back and added another in the bottom of the 1st with his 9th home run since joining the Naturals.  Sulbaran gave that one run lead back in the 2nd before pitching the next two innings scoreless and getting the hook after four innings.  The Naturals took the lead in the 4th getting a pair of run scoring hits from Whit Merrifield and Fletcher to take a 5-3 lead.  Reliever Ethan Hollingsworth followed J.C. working four innings of one run ball giving up just two hits and one run to earn the win after Sam Runion worked a perfect 9th with three strikeouts on 11 pitches.

Wilmington Blue Rocks 9 Salem Red Sox 1

A night after Vance Wilson had a team meeting with his young Blue Rocks squad they played perhaps their best game of the year.  Wilmington starter Jason Adam contributed to that game with one his better starts in his young professional career, hurling 7 innings of two hit ball to earn his fourth win of the year.  Adam showed plenty on the mound according to PTP writer Zach Mortimer, throwing his fastball in the 92-94 range with good life, downward curve in the 77-79 mph range and flashing a good change with good fade and sink in the low 80’s.  He also backed up one of his hitters that had beaned earlier in the game by returning the favor in the 2nd and finishing his work allowing just an unearned run with six K’s and just one walk.  The Rocks had struggled to back up Adam in the past but didn’t have that same problem on this night scoring 9 runs thanks in part to a 5 for 5 night by designated hitter Matt Fields including two home runs.  First baseman Murray Watts also got involved going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and a couple runs driven in.  The win for the Rocks put them back in a first place tie with the Frederick Keys.

Kane County Cougars 5 Clinton Lumber Kings 0

Royals 1st Round pick, Kyle Zimmer had his best Single A start since joining the club earning his first Midwest League win.  The right-hander had his longest professional start, getting through 6.2 innings while allowing just three singles, not allowing a run, a walk and striking out a career high 10.  Zimmer nearly missed out at a shot at a win as the offense struggled to get anything going off Clinton starter Robert Shore but a pitching replacement in the 7th allowed the Cougars to get a run across on a sac fly by Henry Moreno that scored Alex Llanos who had doubled earlier in the inning.  The offense tacked four more on Clinton reliever Josh Corrales in the 8th thanks in part to another Llanos double that drove in a pair.  Those runs were more than enough for the Kane pen to secure the win for the team and Zimmer.

The Chukars jumped out with 10 runs in the first four innings to cruise to a win Friday night.  Four different players had multi-hit games with Nick Delguidice pacing the way with three hits and four RBI’s thanks to a pair of doubles.  17 year old prospect Adalberto Mondesi reached base three times with a pair of hits and a walk scoring two runs and driving in another while stealing his ninth base of the season.  Starter Zeb Sneed gained the win with all of the run support despite giving up five runs in five innings.

Game 1

Burlington Royals 12 Bluefield Blue Jays 5

The Royals entered the 7th down 5-2 of the first game of their doubleheader but exploded over the next two innings to cruise to a win.  First baseman Mark Threlkeld hit a two run home run to get things started for Burlington to pull within a run.  The Royals weren’t done there putting together four consecutive singles to put four more runs on the board to take a 8-5 lead.  Threlkeld got things started again for the Royals in the 8th doubling to lead off the inning, scoring on a Terrance Gore single as part of a four run inning to cap off an easy win.

About The Author

I grew up on the mean gravel roads of Iowa where I started my love for baseball from the age of 2. George Brett and the voice of Denny Matthews deepened my love even more for the Royals as my father and I spent summers listening to the team on our deck or in the car on our way to or from my little league and high school games. Sports was always the common bond that my father and I enjoyed and the Royals were in the center of that.I currently live in La Vista with my wife, two sons, two dogs and a pair of gross cats where we are grinding through until we can move somewhere warm when we retire. I own Casino Cab Company and Bluffs Affordable Auto Repair in Council Bluffs trying to build my 1% empire. If you are in the area you can find me at Omaha Storm Chasers games on most nights or just follow me on twitter @ClintScoles.

Any news on what has happened to Jorge Bonifacio? I noticed he’d been slumping a bit but I haven’t seen him written in the box score for the last several games.
