Arkansas Travelers 8 NW Arkansas Naturals 2

The Naturals losing ways continued Wednesday night with another loss to the Travelers.  Starter Michael Mariot had his worst start of the season giving up 5 runs on eight hits in six innings.  The offense couldn’t make up for that rough pitching getting just two runs on nine hits thanks to a 2 for 13 effort with runners in scoring position.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans 3 Wilmington Blue Rocks 2

Andy Ferguson gave the Rocks a quality start giving them 7 innings of two run ball but the offense couldn’t answer the bell for the third straight day in Myrtle Beach.  Ferguson gave up six hits and no walks while striking out four in his second High A start but bullpen mate Antonio Cruz gave up his first run since joining the Rocks in the 8th inning turning a 2-2 game into a one run deficit that Wilmington couldn’t comeback from.  Former Gamecock Whit Merrifield had a good day at the plate going 2 for 3 with a walk and a home run to account for two of the Rocks six hits.

Bowling Green Hot Rods 5 Kane County Cougars 0

The Cougars had some road drag after the long road trip to Bowling Green Wednesday.  The Cougars offense put up just 2 singles giving starter Kellen Moen a loss after giving up two runs in 5 innings.  The Cougars pitching staff struck out 12 Hot Rod hitters but it wasn’t enough thanks to the lack of offense.

Burlington Royals 4 Danville Braves 3 F/11

A late rally put the Royals in position to take a win in extras and grab hold of first place.  The Royals went into the bottom of the 9th trailing 3-1 while collecting just two Humberto Arteaga hits in the first 8 innings but a Mark Threlkeld double and a Terrance Gore hit by pitch put them in a good position.  With no outs Arteaga sacrificed the two runners in to scoring position allowing the Royals to push across a run when the Braves walked Bubba Starling and Patrick Leonard.  Trailing by a run and now with two outs a wild pitch by reliever Jeremy Fitzgerald allowed the speedy Gore to cross, sending the game to extra innings.  In the 11th the Royals put a two out rally together getting back to back walks from Cam Gallagher and Fred Ford to load the bases allowing Starling to score on Jose Rodriguez controversial hit by pitch that the Braves thought Rodriguez swung on.  The win allowed the Royals to take lone control of first place improving their record to 17-8.

About The Author

I grew up on the mean gravel roads of Iowa where I started my love for baseball from the age of 2. George Brett and the voice of Denny Matthews deepened my love even more for the Royals as my father and I spent summers listening to the team on our deck or in the car on our way to or from my little league and high school games. Sports was always the common bond that my father and I enjoyed and the Royals were in the center of that.I currently live in La Vista with my wife, two sons, two dogs and a pair of gross cats where we are grinding through until we can move somewhere warm when we retire. I own Casino Cab Company and Bluffs Affordable Auto Repair in Council Bluffs trying to build my 1% empire. If you are in the area you can find me at Omaha Storm Chasers games on most nights or just follow me on twitter @ClintScoles.
