The Chasers finished off their division title Saturday with a win as the OmaHogs on “What If” night at Werner.  Starter Ryan Verdugo continued his solid effort at AAA running his string of quality starts to four with his one run allowed in 7 innings while working around seven hits with help from seven K’s.  The strikeouts are good for 10th in the league while his eleven wins and 3.46 ERA place him in the Top 5 in both categories in the PCL.  Omaha hitters Irving Falu, Mitch Maier, Anthony Seratelli and Wil Myers started the 7th with four consecutive singles to score three runs in the inning to build their lead to 5-1, turning things to the bullpen who gave up a couple runs prior to the victory celebration.

Wilmington Blue Rocks 1 Lynchburg Hillcats 0

It took nine innings for one of the two offenses to break through in Wilmington thanks to some outstanding pitching but when it said and done the Rocks walked off with a win.  The two teams starting pitchers didn’t allow a run as Hillcats starter Dimasther Delgado worked six scoreless allowing just four hits and a walk while Brooks Pounders gave Wilmington seven scoreless.  For Pounders that was 14 innings without allowing an earned run this week while the big righty K’d 12 (7 – Sat.) and walked just one in that span.  Pounders got a some help from center fielder Brett Eibner who gunned down a runner at 3rd base in the 6th and another at the plate in the 7th to keep the game scoreless.  The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the 9th when the Rocks would load the bases with two down for Orlando Calixte who would grind out a AB fouling off four pitches until getting a single to fall into left field for the walkoff win.

Kane County Cougars 7 Burlington Bees 3

A good start from the Cougars offense striking with 3 first inning runs gave Kyle Smith all the breathing room he and his pitching mates would need.  Smith would get on another strikeout roll in this start putting nine away in his 5.1 innings while allowing just 3 hits.  The Cougars offense put four more runs on the board in the 4th to stretch their lead to 7-0 with two of the runs coming home on a Alex Llanos single.  The bullpen would take over for Smith in the 6th allowing an unearned run to cross and giving up a couple more to finish off the win.  The win for Kane County put them two games back of Burlington for the final playoff spot in the division.

About The Author

I grew up on the mean gravel roads of Iowa where I started my love for baseball from the age of 2. George Brett and the voice of Denny Matthews deepened my love even more for the Royals as my father and I spent summers listening to the team on our deck or in the car on our way to or from my little league and high school games. Sports was always the common bond that my father and I enjoyed and the Royals were in the center of that.I currently live in La Vista with my wife, two sons, two dogs and a pair of gross cats where we are grinding through until we can move somewhere warm when we retire. I own Casino Cab Company and Bluffs Affordable Auto Repair in Council Bluffs trying to build my 1% empire. If you are in the area you can find me at Omaha Storm Chasers games on most nights or just follow me on twitter @ClintScoles.
